IMPROVEMENT OF POLICY ON AGE LIMIT FOR NEW APPLICANTS FOR RENTAL CAR AND TAXI LICENSE CLASS

The previous policy stipulation for the age limit for new Taxi and Rental Car license applicants was 60 years and below. The Board at the Board Meeting No.1/2017 has agreed to make improvements to the new license issuance policy regarding the age limit of applicants for Taxi and Rental Car license class increased to 63 years.

IMPROVEMENT OF PERIOD AND EXPANDING OF OPERATING AREA FOR APPLICATION OF OPERATING AREA (KOP) FOR RENTAL CAR LICENSE CLASS IN SARAWAK

The Board at the Board Meeting No. 8/2017 has determined that the period of Operating Area (KOP) for Rental Car license class can be extended from fourteen (14) days to twelve (12) months and the operating area can be extended from based on division to to the whole of Sarawak in accordance with Section 19 (2) read together with Section 22 of the CVLB Act 1987.

IMPLEMENTATION OF CLASSIFICATION AND RATE SETTING OF NEW RATE SETTING OF WEIGHT AND LOAD LIMIT (BDM) INVOLVING THE CATEGORY OF DE-CONTROLLED GOODS VEHICLES

On 1 October 2017, the Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) has enforced the Weight and Cargo Limit (BDM) for ‘C’ Carrier License class licensed with the Sarawak CVLB is 7,501kg and above. While for vehicles carrying their own goods with a BDM limit of 7,500kg and below are categorized under De-Controlled vehicles.

APPLICATION TO INCREASE THE AGE LIMIT FOR TAXIS IN THE STATE OF SARAWAK FROM 15 YEARS TO 20 YEARS

The meeting agreed with the decision that the age limit for taxis which is 15 years old will be extended to 18 years only with the following conditions:-

  1. It is not allowed to apply for the area of ​​operation (KOP) in the entire state of Sarawak. Only allowed to operate in the zone specified in the license/permit.
  2. The name of the taxi license, number of passengers, area of ​​operation and CVLB file reference number must be clearly marked on both sides of the front door of the vehicle.
  3. Renewal policy:-
    • Approval for the renewal period is given for three (3) years from the date of expiration of 15 years of vehicle operation based on the date of registration of the vehicle with JPJ Sarawak.
    • Pass the PUSPAKOM periodic inspection (VR1 Report) which is conducted twice (2) a year and must submit the inspection results to CVLB Sarawak each time the inspection is made during the renewal period.
    • Passed Public Transport Vehicle License (PSV) or existing PSV License is still valid.
    • Road tax still in force. If the road tax has expired and the VR1 Report is still in force, then the license will be issued for a period of one year only.
    • The business license is still valid.
    • For Taxi Drivers aged 65 years and above are required to have an Assistant Driver and will be given approval for a renewal period of three (3) years or according to the remaining period from the expiration date of 15 years of operation and registered with CVLB Sarawak. For Taxi Drivers aged 65 years and above who do not have an Assistant Driver will be given approval for a renewal period of one year only from the date of expiration of 15 years of operation and registered with CVLB Sarawak. But they must have a PSV License that is still valid.
